I am an experienced special education learning disability specialist and tutor servicing children having difficulty with reading, who may be dyslexic or at risk for problems in the areas of reading skills, spelling, and reading comprehension. I am trained in multiple scientific, evidenced based multi-sensory reading and spelling programs including Orton-Gillingham, Lindamood-Bell, the Wilson Reading System, Slingerland, Alphabetic Phonics, Nina Traub's Recipe for Reading, and Shirley Kahn's Intersensory Learning Program. I am also trained in Nanci Bell's Visualizing and Verbalizing for Language Comprehension and Thinking Skills.
Having training and experience in all of these scientific, evidence based, multi-sensory programs allows me to tailor the instructional program to the unique needs of every child in need of remediation.
In addition to working in a public school as a resource room teacher, CSE evaluator, dyslexia specialist and private tutor, my background includes acting as a BOCES Consultant and speaker at conferences and workshops throughout Nassau County school districts. I have been a guest speaker and presented workshops for the International Dyslexia Association (IDA), Columbia University Teachers College, and the Graduate Center for Integrated Teachers Education (CITE). I have also given a full day lecture and workshop to administrators throughout Nassau and Suffolk Counties at the CW Post Campus of Long Island University.
I have been been honored by the Long Beach School District, The National Committee for the Furtherance of Jewish Education of Nassau County, and have been named as the "Unsung Hero" by the International Dyslexia Association.
Testimonials
R .F., Superintendent of Schools
I am happy to strongly endorse Brenda Guberman for her expertise and success in working with children with a diverse range of reading issues. I was privileged to see Ms. Guberman at work in a school district when I was her superintendent of schools. She was sought after by staff and parents, as she could handle the most difficult childhood reading challenges successfully, for she has pursued much-advanced training in a diverse range of scientifically based multisensory interventions. Her diagnostic skills are astounding, and she knows which technical approaches to use to meet the challenges with which she is presented. Now in private practice, Ms. Guberman is in high demand locally and nationally to work either in person or virtually with children presenting a broad range of issues presently facing school-aged youngsters. She continues her deep professional involvement at the adult level as well, providing instructional workshops to practitioners - graduate students, teachers, school administrators, and others. But her first love is working with children and their families to develop and ensure success and skill in all reading-related endeavors.
